| "Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: Tetsuya Nomura Unveils the Finale Location" |
Tetsuya Nomura has officially confirmed that the conclusion of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will coincide with a pivotal event occurring in the Forgotten Capital, notably alluding to the location where Aerith meets her fate in the original game.
During the recent PlayStation State of Play presentation for the summer, fans were treated to a plethora of exciting updates, including glimpses of Spider-Man 2 and Helldivers 2. However, the highlight of the showcase came in the form of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, which not only unveiled its release date but also provided an extensive look at new gameplay elements and storyline developments. The excitement didn't stop there; the game's development team took to social media and interviews to divulge further details about the project.
One of the burning questions among fans ever since Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was announced as the second installment in a planned trilogy was where the narrative would conclude. There has been much speculation, with one obvious answer always floating around. However, the team has now clarified the scope of the game's story.
In a group interview on the PlayStation Blog, Tetsuya Nomura, the creative director, fielded a question about the game's endpoint—an answer that was surprising to many. Nomura disclosed that Rebirth's storyline would extend all the way to The Forgotten Capital.
Nomura stated, "Although there are some changes in the order of the locations, the locations depicted in this title extend up to 'The Forgotten Capital,' where the greatest fate of Final Fantasy VII awaits you." Nomura was, undoubtedly, alluding to Aerith's fateful demise, a tragic event that unfolded in the Forgotten Capital in the original game. However, it remains uncertain whether history will repeat itself with Aerith's death in this iteration.
The references to Aerith's death scene don't stop there. Following the recent trailer release, the Final Fantasy 7 Remake Twitter account shared messages from the game's development team. Yoshinori Kitase, the producer of Rebirth, specifically acknowledged that "fans are dying to see one scene in particular," yet another clear reference to Aerith's demise.
Nomura's mention of "the greatest fate" and Kitase's acknowledgment of the scene fans are eager to witness strongly indicate that Aerith's death will serve as the climax and conclusion of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, even though it's increasingly likely that another character entirely might meet a similar tragic end.
