Square Enix has joined forces with KFC Japan to offer fans a brand-new culinary adventure featuring Final Fantasy-themed fried chicken, scheduled to debut on October 4, 2023. Despite the excitement surrounding this collaboration, both Square Enix and KFC Japan have remained tight-lipped regarding specific details. Nevertheless, a tantalizing glimpse into the venture was provided through a social media post displaying silhouettes of the beloved Chocobo and Moogle set against a vibrant red backdrop. These iconic designs draw inspiration from Chocobo Mystery Dungeon and Chocobo GP, further fueling anticipation.
The announcement of this unique partnership was exclusively unveiled on X (formerly Twitter) by KFC Japan, leaving fans eager for more information.
This venture continues Square Enix's tradition of collaborating with various brands to create delectable tie-in products. A noteworthy example is their recent partnership with the Japanese chip brand, Koikeya, which resulted in the release of special "popoto" chips inspired by FFXIV. These chips quickly flew off the shelves upon their initial launch, prompting a restock due to their immense popularity among Japanese fans. Cup Noodle also played a role in previous collaborations, contributing to FFXV and Dissidia Final Fantasy NT tie-ins. More recently, DoorDash and Taco Bell teamed up with Square Enix to celebrate the release of FFXVI on the PlayStation 5 in June 2023.
KFC, renowned for its international brand collaborations, has previously partnered with franchises such as Genshin Impact, Pokemon, and Diablo 4, further solidifying its status as a hub for cross-media promotion.
Mark your calendars, as the highly anticipated Final Fantasy x KFC Japan collaboration is set to commence on October 4, 2023.
