The Lancia 037 is etched into motorsport history for a singular achievement - being the final two-wheel drive car to secure victory in the World Rally Championship (WRC). Even as Audi Quattros began to dominate the scene during Lancia's 1983 manufacturers' championship triumph, they couldn't replicate the 037's unique blend of lightweight agility and mid-engined finesse. Yet, the writing was on the wall, and Lancia, forestalling the shift, was already working on a four-wheel-drive solution for the Delta, a move that would prove successful.

Fast forward 40 years from that memorable WRC win, and Kimera Automobili has exciting news: they are set to craft a four-wheel drive version of their breathtaking EVO37 restomod. This forthcoming vehicle embodies the rally car that Lancia, to the regret of many, never brought to life. This ambitious project is the result of a passionate team of Lancia enthusiasts who aim to honor the brand's legacy. While specific details about the new EVO38 remain under wraps, Kimera is enthused by the advancements in all-wheel-drive technology. It's no longer a compromise between power and fun; In fact, these innovations promise to elevate the car's technical prowess. The press release hints at intriguing developments and innovations that will be unveiled during the official presentation of the model. Given Kimera's track record of reworking the Lancia's supercharged and turbocharged four-cylinder engine for the EVO37, as well as creating numerous carbon components, one can expect an ingenious four-wheel drive system for the EVO38. Kimera emphasizes that this new vehicle will pay a faithful homage to the original, rather than being an entirely new creation, and they've even dropped the tantalizing hint of the "Integrale."

Kimera Automobili's plans don't stop there; They have another project in the pipeline known as the K-39, inspired by the Group 5 Lancia/Martini Racing Silhouette, a car that clinched two World Sports Prototype Championship titles. This hyper-restomod of the iconic circuit star will see an “enlarged and lengthened” form and promises “ingenious technical solutions.” While the K-39 hasn't received formal confirmation as a road car, a scale model previews its impressive design. Kimera hints at the possibility of producing a very limited number of units for select customers, and it's safe to say there will be more than a few eager takers.

The primary focus for the K-39 is motorsport, although the press release keeps scant details, pledging more information in the coming year. The key takeaway is that “Kimera Automobili intends to turn its gaze towards the world of racing and is evaluating the opportunity to join an extremely ambitious project.” This aligns seamlessly with Lancia's illustrious motorsport history and Kimera's deep appreciation for the brand and its legacy. With such exciting developments on the horizon, it's clear that 2024 holds promise for two more extraordinary cars from Kimera Automobili. Let the countdown begin.
