Gerald “Slink” Johnson, the actor who voiced Lamar Davis in the popular video game Grand Theft Auto V, was the victim of a swatting prank while he was playing the game live on YouTube. Swatting is a dangerous and illegal practice of making a false report to the police that leads to a SWAT team raiding someone’s home or location.
Johnson was streaming the game on his YouTube channel, Slink Johnson TV, on April 23, 2023, when he suddenly heard loud noises outside his house. He went to check what was going on and saw several police officers pointing guns at him. He quickly realized that he had been swatted and tried to explain the situation to the officers. He also asked his viewers to record the incident and share it online.
Fortunately, the situation was resolved peacefully and no one was hurt. Johnson later returned to his stream and thanked his fans for their support. He also expressed his frustration and anger at the prankster who put his life and the lives of the officers in danger. He said that he hoped that the person who did it would be caught and punished.
Johnson is not the first GTA 5 actor to be swatted. In 2014, Steven Ogg, who voiced Trevor Philips in the game, was also swatted while he was attending a gaming convention in Los Angeles. He was able to avoid the raid by leaving the hotel before the police arrived.
Swatting is a serious crime that can have deadly consequences. In 2017, a man named Andrew Finch was killed by a police officer after he was swatted by a gamer who was involved in a dispute over a Call of Duty match. The gamer who made the false report, Tyler Barriss, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for his role in the incident.
Swatting is not only a waste of police resources and a threat to public safety, but also a violation of the privacy and dignity of the victims.
