Could the integration of social networking and music streaming applications become the standard in the future? The recent launch of TikTok Music in several countries by the parent company of the popular short video platform marks a significant step in that direction.

"While it may not immediately challenge the dominance of market giants like Spotify and Apple Music, every aspect of TikTok - its brand and growth potential - demands serious attention," reports Variety, a prominent publication in the entertainment industry. The magazine is closely monitoring the progress of this new application, which is currently unavailable in the United States and France.

Testing the Waters
During the summer, ByteDance, the Chinese firm behind TikTok, introduced TikTok Music in several countries, including Indonesia, Brazil, Mexico, Australia, and Singapore. Currently, only paid subscription plans are available. Notably, TikTok Music is meant to replace a previous app called Resso, which was removed from app stores on September 5, as reported by Variety.

So, why were these specific countries chosen for the launch? Indonesia, Brazil, and Mexico rank as the second, third, and fourth countries globally in terms of TikTok user numbers. While there's no official announcement regarding a U.S. launch, the magazine speculates that a trial run may be in the cards, hinting at “a potentially imminent debut in its largest market.”

The primary target audience appears to be the younger generation. "We already know that TikTok is an essential way to discover new music. It makes sense to further this development by creating a platform where users can listen to entire songs without leaving the app," suggests Variety.

The industry's response to this newcomer remains uncertain. "The emergence of TikTok Music is poised to reshape the relationship between this new platform, record labels, and artists. It will be critical for both sides to negotiate their if TikTok Music continues in terms of its global expansion."
