Well, we're three years into the PS5's life cycle, so you can see why so many people are asking the question: what's next? Last year, insiders started talking about a redesigned PS5. We've been hearing rumors that Sony has been planning to release a PlayStation 5 Pro for a while, as well as reports of a new Nintendo Switch console. Finally, Sony and Nintendo are no strangers to releasing different iterations of console generations.
Sony first released an updated version of the original PlayStation in 2000 with a remastered PSOne. Nintendo has been doing this since the Game Boy Color in 1998. Therefore, the ongoing reports of updated PS5 and Nintendo Switch consoles shouldn't come as a surprise.
As reported by TomsGuide.com, these reports have been resurfaced. The rumors come from the alleged leaker Segamega99. In a tweet labeled "mysterious" by TomsGuide, Segamega99 hinted that news about the new consoles would be announced "soon".
The alleged information comes from a wholesaler. The source would claim that Sony and Nintendo are producing a large number of new consoles and both are expected to launch around the same time.
Unfortunately, Segamega99's Twitter account is protected, so we don't have access to his tweets. We just have to take the rumors at their word. Still, it's important to take any unconfirmed rumors with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise.
Reports of a "Nintendo Switch Pro" circulating in May 2021 after details apparently leaked about retail giant Amazon. However, it has been two years since this "leak" and we have not received any official news from Nintendo. Details of the PS5 Pro were recently leaked in March 2023 and the console looks like an absolute beast to say the least.
Hopefully Sony and Nintendo will unveil "Pro" consoles sometime this year, assuming the rumors are true.

PS5 is a fantastic console, but anyone who tried to buy one before this year will know what a nightmare it was to pick it up at its normal retail price. So what is the new console? Henderson says it won't be significantly different from the existing PS5, but that would feature a removable drive. We all know that the current PS5 model is a huge buoy, so it would definitely be a bit thinner. Apparently this model will phase out the old model within a year.
While the idea of a removable drive that connects via USB might be appealing to those who currently own a PS5 digital console, don't get too excited. Previously, Henderson had said the hardware wasn't compatible with the existing model, which would certainly be a cause for concern if true.
At this point, Sony has yet to confirm the existence of this rumored new PS5 console, so take it with caution. However, if this is true, it's possible we'll have an announcement soon. So keep an eye out for it.
