That ends the song "Take The Reins" from the summer content program... at least as far as the paid DLCs are concerned.

The Sims 4 celebrated its ninth anniversary over the weekend, a remarkable milestone in the franchise's history. For context, both The Sims 2 and The Sims 3 had lifespans of around four and a half years each. Thus, the latest installment in the series has now held the current-gen title for twice as long as its predecessors combined.

While the much-anticipated surprise for the game's birthday didn't materialize, the occasion did bring the official announcement of the next two mini DLC packs: Poolside Splash and Modern Luxe. These packs are set to release very soon, as in tomorrow at the time of writing.

Poolside Splash will introduce 29 new swimwear-themed Create-A-Sim items, including fun cosmetic flotation devices and an unexpectedly generous selection of outfits for kids, a rarity in packs not primarily targeting that life stage. On the other hand, Modern Luxe is a Build/Buy pack centered around creating "statement" bedrooms and living rooms, featuring a total of 28 new items. Both of these releases boast larger item counts compared to typical kits.

Accompanying this news was the release of Patch 150, which, while not as extravagant as some had hoped for on the game's anniversary, delivered several highly-requested features. The Gallery is now fully functional after undergoing extensive maintenance a few months ago, offering an improved search function and enhanced browsing of other players' creations. Another significant addition is the ability to filter items in Build/Buy mode by individual kits, addressing a previous inconvenience where all kits were grouped under a single toggle, unlike other pack types.

As for other minor fixes and tweaks, one notable change is the update allowing Morgyn Ember, The Sims' first confirmed canonically non-binary character introduced in the 2019 Realm of Magic expansion, to use the They/Them pronouns in the game, aligning with A pronouns update from the previous year.

The announcement of these two kits, following July's Horse Ranch expansion pack, marks the end of the paid DLC planned for The Sims 4's Summer 2023 lineup. However, the "Take The Reins" program is officially scheduled to continue until the end of September, leading many fans to anticipate significant news to wrap up the season. Keep an eye on this space for updates.

The release date for The Sims 4's Poolside Splash and Modern Luxe kits is September 7th, and Patch 150 is already live on all platforms. Don't forget to back up your saved game and mods folders before updating!
