Release Date Announced for Broken Roads: Australia's Response to Fallout

Drop Bear Bytes doesn't waste any time. The release date trailer for the upcoming CRPG from this Australian developer boldly announces its arrival on November 14, diving right into showcasing its post-apocalyptic world, intricate morality system, and turn-based combat.

During an earlier conversation with the creators of Broken Roads, Game Director Craig Ritchie opened up about the indie studio's challenges in securing a publisher due to the game's combat system. He revealed that some publishers had approached them with a suggestion to remove combat entirely, drawing comparisons to the highly acclaimed Disco Elysium. Nevertheless, Drop Bear Bytes remained steadfast in their commitment to being a traditional RPG, firmly insisting on retaining combat elements.

Ritchie proudly listed the primary influences behind Broken Roads as "Fallout 2, Planescape: Torment, Pillars 2, Baldur's Gate," even predating Baldur's Gate 3's exit from early access and its subsequent surge in popularity. Notably, Broken Roads features playable prologues tailored to each player-character archetype, evoking memories of the iconic Dragon Age: Origins.

For a sneak peek into the game's world and mechanics, you can experience one of these prologues in the demo available on Broken Roads' Steam page. Additionally, Drop Bear Bytes will be showcasing their creation at PAX Australia, set to run from October 6 to 8. So mark your calendars and prepare to dive into the intriguing world of Broken Roads when it arrives on November 14.
