"Electrifying Showdown: Porsche's Taycan Takes on Tesla at Nürburgring"

Porsche and Tesla have engaged in an ongoing battle for supremacy on the Nürburgring circuit among electric vehicles (EVs). Although Tesla currently holds the record as the fastest non-supercar on the track, Porsche from Zuffenhausen appears ready to stage a comeback. In a recently surfaced spy video, we catch a glimpse of what is believed to be the flagship version of the Taycan, Porsche's electric sedan, pushing the limits on the legendary Green Hell. There's speculation that this German EV may have already outpaced Tesla's Model S Plaid, though nothing has been officially confirmed yet.

The spy photographer responsible for this video suggests that the Taycan Turbo GT (while the name remains unconfirmed) came surprisingly close to matching the lap time of the Rimac Nevera, a Croatian electric supercar. The Nevera set a remarkable record of 7 minutes and 5.298 seconds on the Nürburgring, while the Model S Plaid Track Pack fell short by about 20 seconds. The photographer boldly claims that "for sure they [Porsche] have beaten the Tesla."

This spicy new Taycan variant is expected to coincide with a mid-cycle facelift for the entire Taycan lineup. Reports are circulating that Porsche is considering the addition of a third motor to achieve a combined power output rumored to exceed four digits. Apart from boasting a minimum of 1,000 horsepower, the range-topping Taycan will also sport an aerodynamic package, evidenced by the substantial rear wing seen on the prototype.

Porsche has been characteristically tight-lipped about the specifics of the changes coming to the Taycan. One intriguing aspect is the weight of the Turbo GT, given that the Turbo S variant already tips the scales at a substantial 5,101 pounds. However, advancements in technology since the Taycan's inception in the mid-2010s may provide engineers with innovative solutions to offset the potential weight increase.

With the Taycan aging at four years, it's imperative for Porsche to introduce technological updates to remain competitive in the ever-evolving EV segment. The competition is fierce, especially with contenders like the Lucid Air already offering a tri-motor Sapphire variant. Porsche's moves on the Nürburgring and the impending Taycan updates demonstrate their commitment to staying at the forefront of the electric vehicle race.
