| Introducing the Official Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2: A New 4 nm Chipset with Notable Changes from Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 and Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2 |
Qualcomm recently unveiled its latest chipset, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2, which is set to make its debut in the upcoming Redmi Note 13 Pro. It's worth noting that Qualcomm skipped the Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 and the Snapdragon 7s Gen 1 in their naming convention. Instead, they went from the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 to the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2. This has raised questions about the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2's positioning within the series, though Qualcomm has yet to release all the specifics regarding this new chipset.
What we do know is that the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 boasts eight CPU cores, evenly divided between efficiency and performance clusters. This configuration aligns it more closely with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, lacking the additional performance core found in the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2. Qualcomm has remained tight-lipped about the GPU used, only mentioning that it will fall under the Adreno brand.
Moreover, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 comes equipped with a slightly slower Snapdragon X62 modem compared to other Snapdragon 7 series chips. It also features a Qualcomm FastConnect 6700 system that is not as robust. Additionally, it opts for Bluetooth 5.2 instead of the newer Bluetooth 5.3 and relies on the older QuickCharge 4+ charging technology. Another area where it falls short is its Spectra Image Signal Processor (ISP), which can handle camera setups up to 48 MP single, 32 MP + 16 MP dual, or 16 MP + 16 MP + 16 MP triple configurations. Importantly, Qualcomm has positioned the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 lower in its 7 series product stack than the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1.
For reference, here are the part numbers for recent Snapdragon 7 series chipsets:
Snapdragon 7s Gen 2: SM7435-AB
Snapdragon 7 Gen 1: SM7450-AB
Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2: SM7475-AB
