Introducing the Huawei Mate X5: Experience the New Foldable Flagship at Mate X3 Pricing

Huawei has recently unveiled the pricing details for its latest foldable smartphone, the Mate X5, which was launched in China just last week. In essence, the Mate X5 closely resembles its predecessor, the Mate X3, in nearly all aspects, with the exception of its chipset and memory configurations. As previously discussed, the Mate X5 trades the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 for a Kirin 9000S chipset.

The Kirin 9000S is equipped with ARM Cortex-A720 and Cortex-A510 CPU cores and utilizes a 7 nm manufacturing process. Consequently, the Mate X5 may exhibit slightly reduced performance in various tasks compared to its forerunner. However, Huawei has compensated for this by increasing the RAM capacity to 16 GB, a notable upgrade from the previous model. Additionally, storage options for the new Mate X5 remain consistent, offering 256 GB, 512 GB, and 1 TB variants, mirroring the choices available with its predecessor.

Surprisingly, Huawei has introduced five different variants of the Mate X5, including two Collector's Edition models. The specifics of what sets the Collector's Edition apart from the standard variants are somewhat unclear, except for the inclusion of a 1 TB storage option. Regardless, the pricing for the Mate X5 commences at CNY 12,999 (approximately US$1,788) for the base model with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, maintaining the same price point as the previous iteration.

As illustrated in the screenshot below, the pricing progressively increases by CNY 1,000 (approximately US$138) increments, culminating in the 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB storage variant, which retails for CNY 16,999 (approximately US$2,338). In essence, the Mate X5 maintains price parity with its predecessor until the 1 TB model, which sees a CNY 1,000 (approximately US$138) price hike compared to the previous year.

Currently, it remains uncertain whether Huawei plans to release the Mate X5 on a global scale, similar to its approach with the Mate X3.
