| Exciting AI Enhancements Revealed by Adobe for Premiere Pro and After Effects |
Another year, and once again, the International Broadcasting Convention took place in Amsterdam. This year's IBC was marked by a flurry of news and releases from the leading film and video industry players. Unlike previous years where AI dominated the headlines at NAB, IBC 2023 featured a broader spectrum of camera releases and technological updates that extended beyond artificial intelligence and machine learning.
Even Adobe, a prominent player in the field, introduced not only AI-driven enhancements but also a range of diversified tools and features across its filmmaking and video editing products and apps. Let's delve into the latest offerings from Adobe in the world of filmmaking and video editing.
Premiere Pro Updates:
While Adobe's AI tool, Firefly, garnered attention for its Photoshop features like Generative Fill, Premiere Pro itself received substantial updates. One noteworthy addition is the “Enhance Speech” feature, currently in beta, which utilizes AI to effectively eliminate noise and enhance the quality of voice recordings. This feature can make your audio tracks sound as if they were professionally recorded, even if they were sourced from the field or your camera's built-in audio recorder, or perhaps even from an iPhone.
Adobe also announced an AI-powered “Word Filler Detection” feature within their Text-Based Editing tool, also in beta. This feature allows for the instantaneous removal of distracting "uhs" and "ums" from your dialogue or interviews.
After Effects Updates:
For After Effects users, Adobe unveiled the impressive AI-powered “Roto Brush” tool designed to streamline the laborious process of rotoscoping. This tool harnesses the power of machine learning algorithms to efficiently isolate challenging objects like overlapping limbs, hair, or other transparencies from their backgrounds.
Additionally, After Effects introduces a true 3D workspace for the first time, offering a fresh approach to motion design. This 3D workspace allows users to add depth and dimension to compositions seamlessly by natively importing 3D models. The inclusion of "Image-Based Lighting" enables realistic integration of these models into scenes, complete with appropriate lighting and shadows based on any image source. This opens up exciting possibilities for 3D motion graphics and creative effects.
Overall Performance Optimization:
Adobe's focus for this batch of updates extends to holistic performance optimization. Premiere Pro is expected to benefit significantly from these enhancements, offering up to 5x faster timeline performance. Additional tools like the "Effects Manager" help users identify incompatible plugins, optimizing system performance.
Furthermore, there are improvements in color management, including new color preferences and streamlined settings within the Lumetri Color panel, along with enhanced LUT management and relinking capabilities. Frame.io, Adobe's collaborative platform, is also getting camera-to-cloud integrations for FUJIFILM GFX-100ii, Atomos Ninja, and Accsoon SeeMo devices, along with a new "Storage Connect" feature for enterprise asset management.
Availability:
All these exciting updates and features are currently available in beta and are scheduled for release to the general public in the coming fall. For more information, you can check Adobe's product pages or visit the respective app pages for Premiere Pro (beta) and After Effects (beta).
