League of Legends has a well-known tradition of shaking up its item roster during the annual preseason, and this time around, players are anxiously awaiting news about the fate of one of the game's latest additions to the shop.
Statikk Shiv, an item that made a comeback after a two-year hiatus, appears to be teetering on the edge of removal in the upcoming season, according to player speculation. In a recent Reddit post on the League subreddit, gamers discussed the possibility of Statikk Shiv being phased out if the ongoing series of nerfs continues.
Reddit user comments reflected this sentiment, with one stating, "They keep nerfing the only, and I mean ONLY reason people buy that item, which is its wave clear. So when people stop buying the item because it's no longer good at wave clear, Riot will remove it."
Statikk Shiv had been absent from League's item shop for over two years, having been removed from the game in 2020 despite being a staple item since its inception. Upon its reintroduction earlier in the current season, the item underwent a rework that emphasized magic damage and wave clear. Its signature "Electroshock" passive was revamped to deal bonus AP damage, with damage against minions scaling with AP. This adjustment made Statikk Shiv a must-have for AP champions and certain hybrid AD carries, briefly making it one of the most powerful items in League.
However, since its reappearance in Patch 13.10, Statikk Shiv has undergone significant nerfs. Riot has repeatedly toned down its ability power ratios and minion damage bonuses. The once 50 percent AP ratio has been reduced to a mere 15 percent, and the AP scaling on minion damage has been completely eliminated. In Patch 13.18, the item will see its minion damage drop from 250-350 to 200.
Some Reddit users, like TheCyrax1337, didn't mince words, claiming, "People don't want to admit that bringing back Shiv was a mistake."
Historically, Riot has removed items that fell out of favor with the community due to a series of nerfs. Items like Banner of Command, Feral Flare, and others all enjoyed brief periods of fame before Riot's nerfs rendered them extinct. It's entirely possible that Statikk Shiv might meet a similar fate.
