Blackmagic Introduces 'Camera' App for iPhone: Free Professional Filming Tool

Blackmagic, the company renowned for its popular video editing software, DaVinci Resolve, has unveiled a brand-new iPhone application called “Blackmagic Camera.” This innovative app empowers users to harness manual controls when capturing professional videos with their iPhones, and the best part is that it's entirely free.

The Blackmagic Camera app brings a professional video interface reminiscent of Blackmagic's own high-end cameras to the iPhone. This ensures that whether you're a filmmaker or content creator, you can elevate your video recording capabilities with your iPhone.

This app offers a plethora of manual controls, including shutter speed, ISO, white balance, and tint adjustments. Users can seamlessly switch between various lenses, frame-per-second settings, stabilization levels, and fine-tune focus adjustments. Additionally, the interface provides access to recording parameters, histograms, focus peaking, and levels, among other features.

One remarkable feature of the Blackmagic Camera app is its ability to record horizontally in a 16:9 format while holding the iPhone vertically. Moreover, it includes options for adding metadata, streamlining post-production processes. For iPhone 15 Pro users, the app is fully compatible with the new Log color profile.

Given that the app is developed by Blackmagic, it seamlessly integrates with DaVinci Resolve and Blackmagic Cloud, enabling direct synchronization of videos with these applications. However, users also have the flexibility to save their videos to the Photos app, share them with other applications, or store them on an external SSD.

For those eager to explore the capabilities of Blackmagic Camera, the app is now readily available for download on the App Store, completely free of charge. It's compatible with iPhone XR or newer models running iOS 16 or later. It's worth noting that specific features, like the Log color profile, are exclusive to certain iPhone models due to hardware constraints.
