There are tons of great mounts to collect in Final Fantasy 14: there's a space jellyfish that will put your character to shame, the Regalia from FF15, a fluffy sheep, and even one that will have your character trapped on the TV. But they all have one thing in common: their character is there, either astrid them or imprisoned like the victim of a cautionary tale.
This year, that rule will be broken with the upcoming event The Rising 2023, celebrating the 10th anniversary of FF14. They take place every year and usually include fireworks and a cute thank you movie where the characters look suspiciously like a development team.
This year you can get the mount "Rising Phoenix". Rather than trapping your poor warrior of light in a digital prison, it simply turns you into a bird. All traces of your adventurer are gone and doomed to a feathered fate. The aftermath is somehow more unsettling than locking yourself behind a TV screen.
"Take a good look at this mount. Notice whatever in particular?" asks a member of the Minaryne community team in an official blog post."You become a phoenix! Minaryne also shared a screenshot of the mount's special action, A Flame Reborn, which allows you to blow yourself up. This prospect scares me a little: dozens of players throw fireballs at the hunt platoons. Luckily you can turn off other players effects in the options menu and overall I think the mount is pretty good. It's definitely an improvement over The Rising 2022, where you have a little Emet Selch who always judges you based on your choices.
The event will also feature a new mini-game for your inn called Kupo Kupo Adventure, as well as a permanent side quest related with Lousioux, whose sacrifice canon was part of the 2013 Final Fantasy 14 reboot. You can also buy orchestration scrolls and wall decorations, but either way I can turn into a bird on command and then explode.
