NYC GO Fest 2023 PvP Field Guide: What to Catch, Raid and Look for ..
Pokémon GOFest is happening in New York this weekend!

There are many interesting Pokemon in Raid, Research, and Wild, so today I'm releasing a new PvP field guide for this event. It might not be necessary, but some will definitely be looking for something like this, so here we go: the JRE is taking what GOFester should prioritize in this weekend's hunt while you still have a chance!

The bulk of this analysis will be devoted to the new editions, mostly Legendary and Mythic (some with new moves). But at the end I will make a short "ranking" of wild eggs from different habitats, highlighting a few in particular. And as some may have noticed, I'm making liberal use of the guide I published for GOFest in Osaka and London. It's not plagiarism if you "steal" your previous writings, is it? 😅
Not long ago I did an analysis of Rayquaz's breaking swipe and praised the sudden potential the Big Shot finally had in PvP. Especially in the Master League, where everything went from here to today. However, the problem remained as to which second charge movement should be triggered. The Hurricane is widely considered to be the best in terms of range (without it, RayRay is completely surrounded by Dragon's damage-resistant hardware) and closing power, but Outrage also had about
plays (or even something like Ancient Power).

With all these options, you might not think Rayquaza would be looking for another more expensive attack of them all, but here comes Dragon Ascension, a 70 energy flying attack (5 energy more than Hurricane) that deals a whopping 150 damage (40). more than Hurricane! ), the second type of flight is only shifted to the formidable Aeroblast, exclusive to Lugia. Yes, that's even more expensive for the relatively frail Dragon, which only generates an average of 3.0 Energy per turn at a
Preferred Fast Move (Dragon's Tail) movement, but consider this: Since Dragon's Tail is a three-turn-per-turn move it generates actually 9 energy (3.0 energy per turn x3) so after seven stacks you have 63 energy and 2 left to fire the hurricane. Adding another tail will give you more than the 65 energy needed... but it's ALSO enough to trigger a 70 energy Dragon Ascension. Likewise, seven consecutive dragon tails after the devastating 35 energy hit will only give you 64 energy, again not much compared to what is needed for the hurricane, and again an extra tail is required to get the energy needed for the hurricane or the rise of the hurricane is needed the dragon. In short, due to the way Dragon Tail generates energy, you often don't even realize that it's the Dragon
Ascent is more expensive than the Hurricane, as very often both are charged on the same turn anyway. .
"Yes, yes, great, JRE. But what does that mean?" Simply put, in typical 1v1 scenarios with the shield, any of Flying's finishing moves can defeat Zacian (not a hard game) (no wonder Outrage can't and Dragon Ascent lets RayRay do it). cover Moon Blast Aaaaaaaaa and only until Xerneas gains Geomancy instead of the action he's stuck with now.

In short, it's no worse than the hurricane, but it's not much better either. You'll see that it speeds up a bit when the shields are down and Dragon Ascent has the power to take out Sylveon and Zacian (thanks for Hard Play now too!) while Hurricane fails. Against this background, Dragon Ascent can definitely be described as an easy upgrade. Not a drastic improvement, but very useful and probably better than Hurricane (and Ray's other non-crushing slash moves in the future). But for those who aren't: Waiting is not lost either. win?

CONNECT?

I've already written a PvP review on CARBINK that you should definitely read, but anyway... it's very, very good in the Grand League. But ONLY in Grand League, with a max CP of 1658 (and only 1467 at level 40, so this thing definitely requires XL). Take advantage of the fact that they're raids to get the candy and XL candy you need and hope it lands as a 14-15-15 which is only as good as the top Tier IV and MUCH cheaper to build (fair for level 42.5 ).Good luck! But the star of this year's GOFest (as hinted at by "Season of Hidden Gems" and the obvious GOFest-themed gem) is a different kind of fairy/rock: the mythical (and long-awaited) DIANCIE. MSG Dianta's
is "Carbink's Sudden Transformation," so it's no surprise that (at the time of writing, at least) they have the exact same moves. That means Carbink excels in the Big League, where Carbink has the fourth-highest stat of ALL Pokemon, while Diantie Struggles at round 230 stat (more or less similar to such things as Dragalge, Grotle, Drapion, and the robust Spoink). large league. While Diancie can defeat most Fire, Ice, Dark, Flying, and/or Dragon types (as you would expect from Fairy/Rock), Carbink ALSO defeats many fighters (Medicham and Scrafty to be precise) and quasi from this point on -Fighters (like Vigoroth and Obstagoon), amazing spirits and destructive spirits (Jellicent, Sableye, Cofagrigus, Alolan Sandslash) and other impressive kills like Lickitung, Lanturn and Drapion. Carbink does it all and Diancie just can't.

Diancie can play in the big leagues and that seems much more interesting in this context. Diancie from the Ultra League is doing fine, she still fights warriors but performs well against the large amount of Dragon, Darkness, Flight, Ice and Fire in the UL meta, plus bonuses like Snorlax, Dubwool, Golisopod, Greedent and Evokers, such as Granbull, Sylveon, and Clefable. I think it definitely matters and the Ultra League is the TA League. I think I'd like to set him up for...
,
... because it's going to be in the Champions League. Not because it doesn't have good attacks and moves to compete with, but because it barely hits 3000 CP.I imagine Mega Diancie could explode in Mega Master League (whenever it comes back), and as my friend and colleague u/Teban54 recently wrote, it's definitely a good idea to update Diancie for PvE use. But strictly speaking, in terms of PvP, I'd buy one built for the Ultra League and leave it at that. This is the best return for each zloty invested.

NEW HOTNESS

If you're looking for Champions League influence and Diancie lets you down, remember that YVELTAL and XERNEAS will be joining the GOFest ticket holders' meetups and their new moves! I wrote a longer review of both earlier this week, but needless to go too far, here's a shorter summary of their pros and cons.
Yvette and Xernie were already good enough to play in the Champions League without any move changes, but yes, they are both better now with the new moves. Yveltal with the new Oblivion Wing performs better in mirror duels and, like Rayquaza with Dragon Ascent, can hover over Xerneas (i.e. those who still have the fast move action) even if it loses to Lugia without Dark Pulse. And being nice to Oblivion Wing/Dark Pulse has other issues, as a big Focus Blast is key to stand a chance of defeating
Ursaluna, Excadrill, and Dialga, which isn't good. I think Oblivion Wing/Focus Blast will likely be the norm going forward, although existing Dark Pulse variants will also have their place.

As for Xerneas, the update with Geomancy is invaluable, finally giving him the fast fairy movement that players have been asking for since it was first released over two years ago. SEVEN new victories become possible. Some, like Yveltal (also with Oblivion Wing), Garchomp and the two Giratinas (as well as the Ascent Dragon Rayquaza defeating Xerneas Tackle), are pretty obvious. Others like Lugia are less obvious but make sense, and Tackle only generates
3s.0 energy per turn, but Geomancy comes into play with 4.33 EPT and then spams Xerni's big attack moves to deal reverse match damage. And still others are pleasant surprises, like Melmetal and Excadrill, again thanks to increased geomantic energy leading to more melee combat that Stale hates. This allows him to defeat Diagl in ALL equal shield scenarios. And if you don't want to go the auto-fail route, you can stick with the normal Moon Blast and still win with shields down and 1v1
shields, which is pretty cool! If you've built Xerneas before and don't feel like doing it again, I think Geomancy is worth an Elite TM, but if you're still working on building it, goodbye, Tackle... Xerne - Geomancy is definitely the way out here.
ATTACK!It's time to get a wild spawn in those events. As with different current GOFests, they are basically tied to precise habitats, and I'll cowl every of these habitats below, and briefly break down the primary objectives for each (again, strictly from a PvP perspective). But there may be one first-rate spawn a good way to be to be had in ALL habitats...And no, I do now no longer advise Unown or Amethyst Crown Pikachu.😝 I'm speakme approximately the primary risk many will should land
SIGILYPH.Normally, the strange "Pokémon Avianid" is the handiest available in a highly small place of the world, which especially consists of Egypt, Israel and Greece. So this is a great opportunity to enrich your Pokédex. But lamentably I suppose that its usefulness ends there, due to the fact in PvP it isn't always very good, each in Big League and Ultra League. Part of it is a weak racquet, part of it is a winning combination that has more weaknesses than strengths, but most of it is just boring plays. Air Slash is
his best virtually rapid assault, and his quality assault attacks (Bug-kind Signal Beam and Rock-kind Ancient Power) don't have any STAB harm or texture. What will you defeat with a mix of flying, insect, and rock damage? Weed yes, but not much else. Now he's going to study a few top MSG moves that would assist him, however not much. Not every newcomer can be a star, and I think Sigilyph will remain just a "Dex-filler" (although it's very rarely worth trading with the local community when you get home!). And now the relaxation of the spawns.Note that maximum of those are the primary form you need to expand in PvP.There's an infographic within the works that wraps all of it up, however it can now no longer be geared up till Thursday, so test returned later. But for now, I'll use the subsequent key for brief reference.

KEY TERMS

A few quick notes about the characters I'll always add to Pokemon:

🌑 - Taking the shadow into account. Not all shades are the best, but most are worthy alternatives. So make sure you don't get frustrated candidates!

🌕 - Clean attention. Some things are just more profitable, or at least as profitable.

🏋️ - Senior/Exclusive move required. For now, we don't expect anything looted during the event (other than Rayquaza) to spawn with moves outside of their normal move pool, so they need an Elite TM to get the necessary legacy moves. I'll explain each of these moves specifically for Pokémon.

💰 - High investment XL. Of course, everything in the Master League requires a max of 296 XL Candy, but there are more things that require a significant XL investment in the Ultra and even the Grand League to reach the max amount. Even if you already have a fantastic specimen of this type, you might want the larger XLs to complete it. Now is your chance to grind! And to make things even easier, you can quickly preview e.g. B. each habitat with its preferred spawn points! Pay attention to the emotes that appear after each habitat, as I'll be using them when detailing the number of those spawns below the graphic.

  Priority Breeding Habitat (hard part)
Prehistoric Volcano 🌋 Dratini, Shieldon, Axew, Slugma, Darumaka, Kangaskhan Toxic Swamp ☣️ PANTIARD, ZUBAT, Skorupi, Tenture, TataCool, krep, cursed venes Treasures, Nosepass, Eevee
Athletic Field 🏟 ️ Lucario, Hitmonchan, Zangoose, Voltorb, Hitmontop, Baltoy
All of these...let's examine what we are dealing with!

PvP PRIORITIES

These Pokémon ought to be your primary precedence while searching in case you are nonetheless missing your PvP arsenal. If you are now no longer aiming for something else at some point of GOFest, take hold of an excellent one (or more)!

  DRATINI 🌑🌋
  Little League Priority: MEDIUM (Dratini)

Major League Priority: HIGH (Dragonair, Dragonite)

Ultra League Priority: HIGH (Dragonite) Champions League Priority: VERY HIGH (Dragonite ) 98 7
There are some different Pokemon that I would possibly rank better in phrases of typical PvP utility, however the Dratini/Dragonair/Dragonite line still has them in abundance AND it's outside of events much rarer than most of those listed below. I guess I don't have to brag about Dragonite's well-known advantages in the Master League (including the Shadow version), especially since it received Superpower a few months ago, but it also has potential in the Big League (especially in some cup formats). and Ultra League like If there are levels you're missing, that is a GREAT threat to fix it.Also consider the underrated Great League Dragonair and Little League Dratini, each of which is probably ideally in shadow shape however are not essential. If now no longer whatever else, grind candy and XL!
,
  PAWNIARD ☣️
  Minor League Priority: HIGH (Pawniard)
  Major League Priority: MODERATE (Bisharp)
,
Ultra League Priority: MODERATE (Bisharp), Major League Priority: N/A where he's pretty good and lots hits big names like Deino , Swinub, Vullaby, Igglybuff, Onix, Chancey, A-Shrew, Stunky and the big villain named Bronzor, among others. Even the Pawnie Wanted level is simply too huge for Little League, so take this particular possibility to get one in your team! To be honest, Bisharp is a warm choice at best, in each Big and Ultra leagues. he worked with the right team, but I've never seen him go off the rails. Still, Little League Pawniard makes him a really well worth target.

  SABLEYE 🌕🌑💰☠️
  Small League Priority: MEDIUM

  Major League Priority: VERY HIGH

  Ultra League Priority: N/A

Master League Priority: N/A I mean, I must praise the virtue of Sableye W now?It rose to the best PvP stages and turned into the seventh maximum performed Pokemon out of the pinnacle 32 groups withinside the world (on the Pokemon World Championships closing weekend... Congratulations to Dracoviz and my vintage pal at u/PolymersUp for this info). It's not like you usually publish the flashiest issues, because even with IV #1, that's not quite the case. But in which it is good, it is REALLY good, even in opposition to a number of the hardest and maximum not unusualplace choices within the whole large league. It is absolutely what you want, the best possible specimen. So if you need a better example - or just an XL candy for the hopefully cleaned up Sobol you're already working on - this is a great opportunity to capitalize on it, and by far the best destination in the Cursed Treasure Habitat.
LUCARIO 🏟️
  Minor League Priority: HIGH
  Major League Priority: HIGH
,
  Ultra League Priority: MEDIUM
,
Master League Priority: Low
, This will save you 65,000 Dust. Whatever the case, Luc is some thing you ought to surely have for your arsenal whilst gambling a knockout layout as he excels in a few areas. It's additionally a totally uncommon possibility to get a Lucario from Little League , and he has appropriate sneak capacity there if he is ever allowed into Little Cups.
,
  SHIELDON 🌋💰
Small League Priorities: Low Internal (Shieldon)
,
  Big League Priorities: High (Bastiodon)
,
  Ultra League Priorities: None
,
  Champions League Priorities: None
,
One more thing that probably doesn't need explanation: the rules of Shieldon the Little Language! No, of path I'm virtually speakme about Basthiodon, the Big Bad of the Big League. in major tournaments (since this condensed meta tends to have teams full of one-on-one counterattacks), but he's still a common opponent in the GBL and will likely always be with his loved ones be - legendary fair. The #1 IV goes all the way as tons as diploma 50, so as a minimum grind those XL candies! A top Bastie have to be on each PvP player's bench.
,
  ZUBAT 🌑🌕☣️
  Minor League Priority: HIGH (Zubat)
,
  Major League Priority: HIGH (Golbat)
,
Ultra League Priority: MODERATE, Master League Priority: N/A, All three are good in their league: Zubat in the minor league, longtime budget hero Golbat in the major league, and Crobat in the ultra. All suffered slight casualties from Poison Fang's recent nerf (well, not exactly Golbat, as Wings Attack was eventually boosted to compensate), but all are still contained in a limited meta and open to play on the right team. The ghost versions of all three are comparable, as are Return's Zubat and Golbat if you purify them (instead of a slime bomb for Zubat - legacy move btw - or a shadow ball for Golbat). It's now no longer unusual for them to reveal up out of doors of events, however in case you are in anyway, you may nonetheless snag a few with higher odds at GOFest, right?
  YAMASK ☠️
  Minor League Priority: MEDIUM
,
  Major League Priority: VERY HIGH
,
  Ultra League Priority: N/A
,
  Major League Priority: N/A
Pick everything up Sableye, rinse and repeat with some variations for Cofagrigus. Sableye defeats resistances and weaknesses with a Dark/Ghost choose as she is ONLY susceptible to Faeries and has four resistances. As a mono ghost, Cofagrigus has more default resistances, but is also more massive. Ninetales, Venusaur and even Register. ) The great thing about Cofag is that it's not limited to the Big League, it also works in the Ultra League, albeit requiring loads of XL candy. You apprehend what to do with THIS information, do now no longer you?

  HITMONCHAN 🌑🏟️
  Little League Priority: MEDIUM

   League Priority: HIGH

  League Ultra Priority: N/A

  Champions League Priority: N/A

Hitmontop gets all the press (and me think it's worth it in the area). ), but for me Hitmonchan has always been the best hitmon when used properly...that is, when used essentially as a one-on-one medicham, with the same Ice Punch and a great finishing move (melee in this case ) and also Average (for a warrior at least!) in bulk... Which makes him slightly better than, say, Primeape with the equal moves. There were some metas where it is completely self-destructed, and don't forget that it includes a bunch of other elemental strikes, a boosted strike (if desired), as well as a shadow build. (Combining some of these can result in a BIG kick in the ass. Of course, Shadow might not be to have had all through GOFest (which we are conscious of), however it is constantly a great time to select out up some thing shiny on your collection.. And hundreds Lucky for Little League Chan.
