Goonhilly supports these missions in partnership with the European Space Agency, further strengthening its role in the global space community. The 32-meter-long Goonhilly antenna is the only long-range commercial antenna that is part of ESA's global network of ground stations.
ESA's space communications antennas, complemented by Goonhilly's GHY-6, will support both the Chandrayaan-3 and Aditya-L1 missions. These antennas will meticulously track the spacecraft, pinpointing its position at critical stages, facilitating the transmission of commands and receiving vital telemetry and science data, which will be transmitted to ESA's ESOC Mission Control Center in Darmstadt, Germany, before being sent to ISRO for analysis to be sent.
For Chandrayaan-3 "Mooncraft", the GHY-6 Goonhilly antenna will work in conjunction with ESA's Kourou antenna in French Guiana to support this mission, as well as ISRO stations and the NASA Deep Space Network. In addition to supporting these ISRO missions, Goonhilly Earth Station will be involved in support of Intuitive Machines' first mission to the Moon, IM-1 based in Houston, Texas, which is expected to be the world's first commercial lunar landing. . Goonhilly will expand his knowledge on cruises, lunar orbits and surface operations. Goonhilly was previously involved in validating lunar tracking and range capabilities - the full lunar communications solution required for this Mission
- by successfully acquiring and tracking NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) during a training exercise with staff from Intuitive Machines.
Goonhilly Earth Station CTO Matt Cosby said, “The collaboration with ISRO, ESA and Intuitive Machines demonstrates our commitment to advancing space exploration and facilitating global scientific advances. As we witness an unprecedented increase in the number of space missions and the emergence of new entrants, Goonhilly is proud to provide the essential communications capabilities needed to support the new era of space exploration. Our international expansion reinforces our commitment to meet the growing demands of the space industry and underscores our role as a pioneer in the commercialization of space. We are excited to be at the forefront of shaping the future of communications space and enabling the success of
