Rewritten: Deltarune fans have eagerly awaited news about the game's progress, especially since it has been in development for several years. Fortunately, Toby Fox has provided an update on Chapter 3 in the latest newsletter.
Original (9/15): Fox has given another update on Deltarune Chapter 3 in the latest newsletter sent out to fans today. We have the report below.
Rewritten: In the most recent newsletter sent to fans, Toby Fox has once again shared an update on Deltarune Chapter 3. Here are the details:
Original: Fox has indicated that work is progressing with the game’s third chapter as the final overworld area is being worked on. A lot has been going on, but Fox said that the fourth chapter will be “much more standard”.
Rewritten: Toby Fox has mentioned that development is advancing on the third chapter of the game, with a focus on completing the final overworld area. While various aspects have been in motion, Fox has reassured fans that the fourth chapter will follow a more conventional approach.
Original: As was the case last time, we’re focusing on Chapter 3. However, there are a few people working on pieces of later chapters, such as bullet patterns or puzzles.
Rewritten: Similar to our previous update, our primary focus remains on Chapter 3. Nevertheless, some team members are dedicating their efforts to elements of upcoming chapters, like designing bullet patterns or puzzles.
Original: As for Chapter 3, we’re finally creating the final overworld area. You could think of it like the “Queen’s Castle” or “Card Castle,” but for this chapter. With this complete, the chapter will finally be playable all the way through…! (Fun Fact: I composed the song for this area in 2016…)
Rewritten: Concerning Chapter 3, we are currently in the process of crafting its ultimate overworld area, akin to the "Queen's Castle" or "Card Castle" concept in previous chapters. Once this part is finalized, players will be able to experience the entire chapter without interruptions. (Fun Fact: The music for this area was composed by me back in 2016...)
Original: This chapter is made of many different pieces… so it’s been hard to understand exactly how everything was turning out. Now that things are clearer, I just need to roll over the entire game with a steamroller and crush out all the bumps. There may be things to add, things to fix, or things to remove… but, many pieces have been quite polished already, so it won’t be too bad.
Rewritten: Chapter 3 is a mosaic of various elements, making it challenging to grasp its overall shape. With a clearer vision in mind, my goal is to streamline the game and smooth out any rough edges, much like running a steamroller over it. While there may still be additions, adjustments, or removals to be made, a significant portion of the pieces have already been finely polished, so the process should be relatively smooth.
Original: As you can tell, this chapter is shaping up to be a pretty strange one. I mostly focused on unusual gameplay elements, and it’s not too heavy on the story. Since it’s so frivolous, I feel a bit self-conscious about it… but, at least I got to try something different!
Rewritten: It's evident that this chapter is taking on a rather unique and unconventional form. I've placed a strong emphasis on introducing unusual gameplay elements, with a lighter narrative touch. Admittedly, this departure from the norm makes me a bit self-conscious, but it's been an exciting opportunity to explore new territory.
Original: Anyway, Chapter 4 will be a much more standard chapter!
Rewritten: In any case, I can assure you that Chapter 4 will return to a more traditional format!
Original: Deltarune will be available on Switch at launch. For now, fans can experience the first two chapters via the eShop.
Rewritten: Deltarune will be accessible on the Switch from the outset. In the meantime, fans can enjoy the first two chapters through the eShop.

Original: Earlier, we were considering having a stealth-focused section in the game where you would slowly, slowly sneak around certain areas.
After developing some concepts, we realized a mechanic which basically just makes you move slower isn’t necessarily fun.
So, we didn’t do that…
Anyway, feel free to listen to this song since it’s now unused here.
Rewritten: At an earlier stage, we contemplated incorporating a stealth-oriented section in the game, where players would navigate certain areas with utmost caution.
However, upon fleshing out these ideas, we recognized that a mechanic primarily centered around slower movement wasn't inherently enjoyable.
As a result, we decided against its inclusion...
In any case, you're welcome to listen to this particular song, even though it won't be used in the game.
