The creators of the highly anticipated rugby video game, Rugby 24, have revealed the reasons behind their “heartbreaking” decision to postpone its release. Originally slated to coincide with the Rugby World Cup, the game's launch will now be pushed to the new year.

NACON and Big Ant Studios have officially confirmed that Rugby 24 will hit the shelves on January 30, 2024, ensuring it won't overlap with the Rugby World Cup, set to kick off in France shortly.

The development team offered insight into their rationale for deviating from their initial plan to align with the sport's flagship event:

"From the inception of our journey in creating Rugby 24, our primary aim has been to craft the most immersive and comprehensive rugby simulation game possible. Our dedicated team has tirelessly worked to fine-tune gameplay, deliver a faithful representation of the sport, and Incorporate all officially licensed teams, encompassing more than 130 countries and 15 leagues.

"Given the substantial expansion in content, the development process has taken longer than anticipated. Additionally, securing access to certain top-tier teams' players for capturing 3D photos (photogrammetry) before the World Cup proved challenging. In our unwavering commitment to providing the The most authentic and comprehensive rugby gaming experience to date, we've made the difficult decision to postpone Rugby 24's release until January 30, 2024, on the eve of the Six Nations tournament. This extra time will also facilitate further gameplay enhancements.

"While it pains us to miss the Rugby World Cup, we firmly believe that this decision is the right one, ensuring you can enjoy your passion in a remarkable gaming experience. We extend our heartfelt gratitude for your understanding, patience, and support. Stay tuned for more updates on Rugby 24."

The developers promise that the forthcoming game will feature "130 national teams, 15 leagues, and innovative gameplay for heightened realism, making Rugby 24 the most comprehensive rugby simulation to date."

Rugby enthusiasts have longed for a new rugby video game, reminiscent of classics like Jonah Lomu Rugby and Rugby '08,' which many consider to have successfully captured the essence of this intricate sport, despite its challenges in adapting to the digital gaming landscape.
