Introducing the Enhanced Liv Avail Advanced: Unveiling Improved Frames and Forks for Optimal Stiffness-to-Weight Ratio

Liv has unveiled its latest Avail Advanced road bike series, boasting new framesets that offer improved lightness and stiffness compared to their predecessors.
The Avail made its debut in 2008 as Liv's inaugural women's performance road bike. Now in its fifth iteration, Liv claims that the updated Avail Advanced has undergone a comprehensive redesign to deliver a smoother and more efficient riding experience, particularly for long-distance cycling.
At the heart of this transformation are two brand-new framesets for the Avail Advanced Pro and the more budget-friendly Avail Advanced models, complemented by a handlebar and seatpost engineered to minimize vibrations and spacious tire clearance for 700x38mm tires.
The refreshed Avail Advanced lineup comprises five distinct models, commencing with the Liv Avail Advanced 3, priced at £2,299/€2,400, and culminating in the Liv Avail Advanced Pro 0, which carries a price tag of £5,999/$6,500.

The New Framesets:

Liv emphasizes that both the revamped Avail Advanced Pro and Avail Advanced framesets incorporate high-performance raw carbon fiber.

The front triangles are crafted using a specialized manufacturing method known as Modified Monocoque Construction, ensuring structural integrity and performance.

These frames showcase novel tube shapes and dynamic feature lines that embody the Avail's fresh design identity, referred to as "Vitality."

The framesets employ different forks, with the Avail Advanced utilizing an Advanced Grade Composite fork and the Avail Advanced Pro frameset equipped with an Advanced SL-Grade Composite fork. The Advanced SL-Grade Composite Fork is designed to optimize strength, stiffness, and climbing capabilities.

Both forks excel in shock absorption at the front of the bike, while the slim, dropped seatstays introduce vertical compliance to effectively dampen road shocks and vibrations from the rear wheel.

Moreover, both frames share an oversized bottom bracket area, seamlessly integrating an 86mm-wide bottom bracket.

To enhance performance, Liv incorporates asymmetrical chainstays for increased stiffness on the driveside and improved stability on the non-driveside. The frames and forks are equipped with flat-mount disc brakes and 12mm thru-axles at the front and rear, further enhancing control and stopping power.

Efficiency and Stiffness:

Liv breaks with tradition by substantiating its claims of increased efficiency and stiffness in the latest Avail Advanced range with quantifiable data.

The Avail Advanced Pro boasts a remarkable 19% improvement in transmission efficiency, while the Advanced demonstrates an 8.2% increase. Liv conducted stiffness assessments following the protocol outlined by the German cycling magazine Tour, employing medium framesets to measure torsional flex under load.

This heightened frame stiffness not only translates to better power transmission but also improved cornering capabilities.

In addition to enhanced stiffness, both framesets are lighter than their predecessors. The Avail Advanced Pro frameset is reported to be 128.4g lighter, while the Avail Advanced shaves off a claimed 104.9g. These weight savings, when combined with increased stiffness, result in a 30.18% improvement in stiffness-to-weight ratio for the Advanced Pro and a 16.21% improvement for the Advanced.

Liv also asserts that the Avail Advanced Pro is 7.12% more efficient than the new Avail Advanced, further underlining the performance gains of the Pro model.

D-Fuse Technology:

Liv incorporates its proprietary D-Fuse technology across all new Avail Advanced models. First introduced in 2014 for cyclocross bikes, this technology is now a staple across Liv's range, including gravel and endurance bikes like the Avail.

The Liv Contact SLR and SL D-Fuse handlebars utilize lightweight carbon construction and are tailored to accommodate women's hands with ergonomic D-shaped tubes and an 8-degree flare. These handlebars enhance comfort across various terrains and provide increased stiffness for sprinting and climbing.

The D-Fuse SLR and SL seatposts offer up to 7mm of flex, acting as a built-in shock absorber for a smoother ride.

Aero Stems:

The new Liv Avail bikes feature redesigned stems that facilitate aero integration, concealing cables and hoses from wind resistance.

The Avail Advanced Pro utilizes the Contact SL AeroLight Stem, which allows cables to be routed beneath and inside the stem. This design permits additional cable length adjustments for handlebar height without cable length constraints.

The Contact SL AeroLight Stem also streamlines aerodynamics by integrating the stem cap, spacers, and head tube, aligning seamlessly with the Contact SL D-Fuse handlebar.

On the other hand, the Avail Advanced features the Contact Aerolight Stem, which routes cables beneath the sides of the stem, enhancing aerodynamic performance while maintaining a sleek appearance.

Tubeless-Ready and Added Extras:

Liv's new Avail range is designed to provide a comprehensive cycling experience. All models come equipped with tubeless-ready road bike wheels fitted with 700x32mm tubeless road tires and a frame mount for attaching mudguards. Additionally, the bikes feature two bottle cages and a cycling computer mount for added convenience.

Expanded Size Range and Geometry:

For the 2024 Avail range, Liv has expanded its size offerings, now providing five sizes from XXS to L. The geometry has also been fine-tuned for 2024, featuring a longer wheelbase and shorter top tube lengths in certain sizes.

Specs and Prices:

The new Liv Avail Advanced series consists of five models, with the top-tier Avail Advanced Pro 0 featuring Shimano Ultegra Di2 components. Other models offer Shimano 105 Di2 or 105 mechanical groupsets, and the most affordable option, the Avail Advanced 3, comes equipped with Shimano Tiagra.
