Exclusive Sneak Peek: Introducing 'Jackbox Party Pack 10's Musical Dodo Re Mi Game

Jackbox Games has unveiled a sneak peek of Dodo Re Mi, a game featured in Jackbox Party Pack 10. This unique game transforms players' mobile phones into musical instruments, challenging them to play skillfully to avoid becoming a meal for a ravenous Dodo plant.

In Dodo Re Mi, participants use their smartphones to hit the falling notes on a Guitar Hero-style screen. After the song concludes, it plays back with everyone's selected instruments incorporated. Should a player miss too many notes, they become a tasty morsel for Dodo Re Mi's voracious flora.

Nate Sandberg, the audio lead for Dodo Re Mi, shared with NME that the game boasts an array of playable public domain songs with recognizable melodies and harmonies. Sandberg revealed that each of these songs has been creatively “style-shifted” to provide a fresh and surprising auditory experience. Examples include a metal rendition of "In the Hall of the Mountain King," a funk adaptation of "HabaƱera," and a unique take on "Flight of the Bumblebee" that is being kept under wraps.

For a glimpse of Dodo Re Mi in action and insights into its development, you can watch the video below, where the game's developers discuss the sometimes "borderline torturous" creative process behind its creation.

As evident in the video, Dodo Re Mi matches can become frenetic. Sandberg explained that although Jackbox aims to maintain chaos in the gameplay and not during development, creating Dodo Re Mi involved numerous uncertainties. Early brainstorming sessions were filled with imaginative ideas from the team, attempting to define the game's identity. Sandberg humorously mentioned an idea for a song called "0' 33'," which would consist of 33 seconds of silence as a nod to John Cage's groundbreaking composition, "4' 33'." However, the concept was eventually discarded as it was deemed too obscure and likely to confuse players.

Dodo Re Mi is slated to be launched as part of Jackbox Party Pack 10, scheduled for release in October.
