Pokemon GO is celebrating its fifth anniversary with a series of Community Day Classic events, featuring some of the most popular Pokemon from previous Community Days. The first one is Mareep, the Electric-type sheep Pokemon, which will be appearing more frequently in the wild on Saturday, November 25, 2023, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. local time.
Mareep was the star of the fourth Community Day back in April 2018, and it returns with some of the same bonuses and features as before. Here is everything you need to know to make the most of this nostalgic event.
Shiny Mareep and Mega Ampharos
One of the main attractions of any Community Day is the chance to encounter and catch a Shiny version of the featured Pokemon. Shiny Mareep has a pinkish hue instead of its usual white wool, and it evolves into a Shiny Flaaffy and a Shiny Ampharos, both of which have yellow fur instead of purple.
Shiny Mareep will have a higher spawn rate during the event, so you should encounter plenty of them if you play actively. You can also use Incense to attract more Mareep to your location, or join a local Discord group to share and find Mareep spawn points.
If you evolve a Flaaffy into an Ampharos during the event or up to two hours after it ends, you will get an Ampharos that knows the exclusive move Dragon Pulse, a powerful Dragon-type attack that can give Ampharos an edge against Dragon-type opponents. This move is only available during this event, so don’t miss this opportunity to add it to your collection.
You can also Mega Evolve your Ampharos into Mega Ampharos, which gains the Dragon-type in addition to its Electric-type. Mega Ampharos will be more useful in raids and battles, especially against Water, Flying, and Dragon-type Pokemon. You will need 200 Ampharos Mega Energy to Mega Evolve it for the first time, and 40 Ampharos Mega Energy for subsequent times. You can get Ampharos Mega Energy by completing Field Research tasks or by defeating Mega Ampharos in raids.
Research Tasks and Rewards
There are two types of research tasks available during the Mareep Community Day Classic: Field Research and Timed Research. Field Research tasks are randomly obtained by spinning PokeStops, and they can be completed multiple times. Timed Research tasks are automatically added to your Today View, and they can only be completed once during the event.

Other Bonuses and Tips
In addition to the increased Mareep spawns, Shiny Mareep chances, exclusive move, and research tasks, there are some other bonuses and tips to enjoy the Mareep Community Day Classic:
- There will be a 1/4 Egg Hatch Distance bonus during the event, meaning that any Eggs placed in Incubators during the event will hatch four times faster. This is a great opportunity to hatch some rare or regional Pokemon, or to get some extra Stardust and Candy.
- There will be a special one-time-purchase Mareep Community Day Box available in the shop for 1,280 PokeCoins. It contains 50 Ultra Balls, 4 Incense, 4 Star Pieces, and an Elite Charged TM. This is a good deal if you need some of these items, especially the Elite Charged TM, which can be used to teach any Pokemon any move that it can learn, including legacy or event-exclusive moves.
- There will be a Snapshot Surprise feature during the event, which means that taking a snapshot of any Pokemon in your collection will spawn a Mareep on the map. You can do this up to five times during the event, and you might even get a Shiny Mareep this way.
- If you want to maximize your Mareep Candy, you can use Pinap Berries to double the amount of Candy you get for each catch. You can also trade your excess Mareep with a friend who is within 100 km to get some extra Candy. If you have a Pokemon GO Plus or a similar device, you can use it to catch Mareep automatically while you focus on other tasks or activities.
- If you want to level up your friendship with other trainers, you can send them gifts during the event, which will have a special Mareep sticker attached to them. You can also invite them to join you in raids or battles, or share your Mareep sightings and achievements with them.
The Mareep Community Day Classic is a chance to relive one of the earliest and most memorable Community Days in Pokemon GO history. Whether you are a veteran trainer who wants to add some more Shiny Mareep to your collection, or a new player who wants to catch up on some of the past events, this is a great opportunity to have some fun and catch some adorable sheep Pokemon. Don’t miss it!
