Markiplier, the popular YouTuber, is currently involved in both a film adaptation of the 2022 horror game Iron Lung and a creative new mode within the original game.
On Monday, developer David Szymanski, the mind behind Iron Lung, introduced "The Cheats Update" via a Steam announcement. This update not only brings some helpful cheats to the game but also introduces the quirky "Markiplier Mode." When activated with the command "chmark," this mode transforms nearly all of the submarine's textures into amusing, low-quality images featuring Markiplier, leaving only a few buttons and indicator lights untouched.
In addition to Markiplier Mode, the update features other cheats, including a "rave" mode that adds vibrant lighting, a speaker, and the ability to see through the submarine's front porthole. Alongside these exciting additions, Szymanski announced a modest price increase from $6 to $8, though the game is currently available at a discounted price as part of Steam's Halloween sale. Future updates and DLC, such as behind-the-scenes photos to be released after the movie premieres, will remain free for players.
Markiplier played a significant role in popularizing Iron Lung after his 2022 playthrough. However, the game experienced another surge in sales earlier this year, which Szymanski found unexpected, thanks to similarities in premise with the disappearance of the Titan submersible.
Markiplier also shared that he turned down a role in the recently-released Five Nights at Freddy's movie to focus on Iron Lung. While the movie adaptation of Iron Lung doesn't have a confirmed release date, it is destined for theaters, and the film's team unveiled a thrilling, blood-drenched teaser earlier this month.
