The New York Liberty, a WNBA team, has joined forces with Xbox to unveil a Starfield-themed basketball court. This distinctive court design incorporates the trademark rainbow-like coloring from Starfield in the key area, with Starfield logos prominently displayed near the halfway line. This unique court transformation will take place at the Barclays Center and will make its debut during the Liberty's upcoming games.
The Liberty is set to showcase this one-of-a-kind court design during their game against the Los Angeles Sparks, scheduled for today. Additionally, fans can look forward to seeing it in action during the Liberty's game against the Washington Mystics on Sunday, September 10. Notably, this collaboration with Xbox marks the second time the Liberty has ventured into the realm of video game-inspired courts. Last year, they introduced an Xbox-themed court for two games held in August.
What sets this court apart is that it's the first time the Liberty has chosen to base its design on a specific video game—Starfield. Keia Clarke, CEO of the New York Liberty, expressed pride in the ongoing partnership with Xbox and the unveiling of this innovative court. In a statement, Clarke remarked, "We're proud to continue our award-winning partnership with Xbox showcasing another first-of-its-kind secondary court and the global launch of Starfield. Continuing our partnership with Xbox provides a unique opportunity to reach and engage with new fans, while also creating synergy between the WNBA and gaming communities. This collaboration will come to life during historic times for both sides, with Bethesda Studios releasing its largest video game in over a decade, and the New York Liberty having its "best season in franchise history."
Starfield, the game that inspired this remarkable court design, was officially released on September 6 for Xbox Series According to Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, the game achieved a significant milestone by garnering over one million concurrent players on its official launch day. This collaboration between the New York Liberty and Xbox not only showcases the growing intersection of sports and gaming but also celebrates the excitement surrounding the release of Starfield.
