| The Overwatch 2 team shares details of Roadhog's new rework to strengthen the "underperforming" tank. |
Roadhog has been a contentious tank hero ever since his debut in Overwatch 1, primarily due to his ability to eliminate squishy heroes with his deadly hook combo. Over time, he has undergone several adjustments in an effort to balance his power without turning him into an enemy ultimate charge generator. After months of hints and teases, it appears that Roadhog is about to receive a more substantial overhaul than ever before.
In a recent blog post, Game Director Aaron Keller provided confirmation regarding the timing of Roadhog's rework, while Executive Producer Jared Neuss suggested that the hero would be receiving some buffs.
Roadhog's Rework Planned for Overwatch 2 Season 7
Keller appreciated the underwhelming performance of Roadhog and announced that the rework is scheduled for the midseason update in Season 7. This means that Season 7 will witness significant changes to two heroes, with Sombra already confirmed to undergo a “lethal” rework upon the season’s launch .
Furthermore, Producer Jared Neuss expressed his agreement with the idea that Roadhog requires some buffs. This indicates that the development team is leaning towards improving Roadhog's capabilities rather than diminishing them.
Previously, Lead Hero Designer Alec Dawson hinted that Roadhog's rework would make him less "self-centered," suggesting a shift toward providing utility to support teammates rather than solely focusing on securing eliminations.
While Season 7 won't introduce a new hero, the substantial changes expected for both Roadhog and Sombra, including potential new abilities, will make it feel as if there are fresh characters joining the hero roster.
