| Official Xbox credit cards will soon become popular in the US |
The last time you tore yourself away from your Xbox gaming session, clad in your Xbox-branded onesie, to whip up a meal from your Xbox-branded cookbook, and cooled off with a beverage from your Xbox-branded mini-fridge, did you ever think, "What's missing from this Xbox-themed paradise? Oh, an Xbox-branded credit card!" Well, guess what? In this unusual timeline, that's now a reality.
Microsoft has joined forces with Mastercard to introduce the official Xbox credit card. Initially, it's rolling out exclusively to Xbox Insiders, with plans to extend availability to all US-based Xbox players next year. The card boasts a reward-based program, which, to put it bluntly, encourages people to take on more debt. So, exercise caution and responsible financial management.
Here's the deal: Every everyday purchase made with the card earns points that can be redeemed for games and add-ons on Xbox.com. To sweeten the pot, the first purchase made with the card nets cardholders 5,000 points (equivalent to $50 USD) and a three-month subscription to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Note that the three-month Game Pass deal is exclusively for new members but can be gifted to others if you're already a subscriber.
Moreover, all eligible purchases made on the Microsoft Store using the card earn a whopping five times the standard amount of points. There's also a threefold increase in points for purchases made with select partners like DoorDash, Netflix, and Disney+.
Now, let's talk about the less thrilling side of this card. The APR rates start at 20.99% and can go as high as 31.99%. So, it's worth emphasizing that this novelty credit card isn't being promoted as a financial must-have. However, it does come in five surprisingly stylish designs, and you can even customize it with your Gamertag. Prepare for store clerks worldwide to suppress a chuckle as they scan a card boldly proclaiming you as XxX-AlPhA-SlAyEr-16-XxX.
