In-game stores have become a common feature in the world of video games, extending their reach even to single-player titles like Dying Light 2, where their presence might not seem essential for gameplay. Dying Light 2 has recently introduced a novel virtual currency known as DL Points, which players can use to purchase cosmetic items within the in-game store. The introduction of DL Points serves a dual purpose: it enhances the player experience by providing an in-game shopping convenience and streamlines the process for developers to release new bundles, often at discounted prices for those using DL Points.

The prevalence of in-game stores has grown significantly in the video game industry, infiltrating even single-player experiences that traditionally did not require them. While downloadable content (DLC) and expansions have been part of gaming for decades, in-game stores represent a different paradigm. These stores typically offer cosmetic items that do not directly impact gameplay. Dying Light 2, despite being primarily a single-player game, has embraced a live-service model and incorporates its own in-game store.

Although Dying Light 2 did not make a huge impact upon its initial release in February 2022, it has steadily garnered a dedicated following. Developer Techland has remained committed to post-launch updates, introducing new weapons, outfits, missions, enemies, and more. Many of these additions can be acquired through Dying Light 2's in-game shop, which is now introducing its virtual currency system.

Techland recently unveiled "DL Points," a new in-game currency system for Dying Light 2. DL Points function similarly to other virtual currencies in popular games like Fortnite's V-Bucks or Call of Duty: Warzone's CoD Points. Players can access the in-game store from Dying Light 2's main menu, select the desired amount of DL Points, make a purchase, and use them within the store.

Techland has introduced DL Points for several reasons. Firstly, it keeps players engaged within the game, eliminating the need to exit Dying Light 2 to access a platform's storefront for purchases. Secondly, it streams the process for developers, reducing the effort required to list new bundles across various platforms.

To encourage players to embrace this new currency system, Techland promises that bundles purchased with DL Points will be more cost-effective than acquiring them through external storefronts. Notably, PlayStation users will be required to use the DL Points system, as cosmetic bundles will be removed from the PS Store once DL Points are integrated into Dying Light 2. Techland's long-term goal is likely to transition all bundles exclusively to Dying Light 2's In-game store, potentially limiting availability through other storefronts for future cosmetic bundles.

The introduction of DL Points is expected to coincide with the game's upcoming update, although no specific release date has been announced yet. To encourage players to give the new system a try, Techland plans to offer 500 DL Points for free upon launch, allowing players to experience its benefits first hand. As Dying Light 2 adheres closely to a live-service model, the addition of virtual currency could potentially enhance the experience for those still engaged with the game, though some fans remain cautious.
