Starting from August 8th, we conducted an extensive week-long survey focusing on the Dragunov and AUG in PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG). We carefully analyzed the feedback gathered in 14 different languages, taking into account trends from various regional gaming communities and in-game metrics. This process allowed us to reflect on the player experiences we aim to provide through future updates. Instead of simply listing these findings in the Patch Notes, we believe it's more meaningful to share our thought process and intentions through this dedicated announcement.

The conclusions we present today are based on survey responses from 18,637 participants and a comprehensive examination of gun usage patterns and win rates. In Update 25.2, you'll encounter the Dragunov without the probabilistic damage system, addressing player feedback. We are also planning to adjust the performance of the AUG. While these changes may not meet every player's expectations, we are committed to gradually advancing toward a more balanced gunplay environment. We will continue to listen to and consider your feedback, especially in regard to upcoming in-game systems and gunplay.

Of the 18,637 responses, 22.1% came from players who had tested the Dragunov on the Test Server. However, we value all PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS players' opinions equally, so we carefully reviewed feedback from both testers and non-testers.

First and foremost, we recognized the need to introduce the Dragunov as a 7.62mm DMR option. Approximately 70% of respondents, regardless of their experience on the Test Server, expressed that the probabilistic damage system should not exist in the game, be it Normal Match or Ranked.

The 20% of respondents who had experienced the Dragunov's damage on the Test Server were even more adamant that randomness detracts from the gameplay. We wholeheartedly agree and have removed the probabilistic damage system entirely.

Furthermore, most players found the Dragunov's damage, rate of fire, muzzle velocity, and recoil to be "appropriate." However, without the probabilistic damage system, we believed the Dragunov might become a challenging and ineffective firearm. Therefore, we enhanced its headshot damage compared to other DMRs, preserving its unique character while eliminating luck-based factors. Additionally, we plan to implement distance-based damage attenuation to prevent single-shot kills at close to medium ranges, maintaining the SR's unique advantage. We invite further feedback as you try these changes.

AUG and Gunplay Balance
Gunplay balance, including the AUG, is subjective and varies based on individual experiences. We analyzed results separately for respondents using 7.62mm and 5.56mm firearms, considering key metrics such as kill rate and win rate.

Over 75% of respondents strongly agreed that PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS offers a diverse weapon selection. Both 7.62mm and 5.56mm fires were perceived as "well balanced" by the majority, with some favoring the 7.62mm as more potent.

We also examined players' perceptions of specific firearms. When asked about the Beryl M762 versus the AUG, 65% of those favoring 7.62mm firearms considered the Beryl M762 more powerful. Among those preferring 5.56mm firearms, 50% agreed that the AUG performed equally or better. However, respondents who preferred 5.56mm firearms were less likely to perceive the AUG as exceptionally strong. Factors contributing to the AUG's dominance in the meta included the presence of the Mk12 as a strong DMR option, differences in ammo weight, and more.

Despite these perceptions, the data showed the AUG's superiority over the Beryl M762 in terms of usage and win rate. To address this, we've decided to reduce the AUG's rate of fire from 750 to 720 RPM and slightly increase horizontal and vertical recoil. This adjustment aims to bring the AUG's performance in line with other AR reserves while maintaining balanced gameplay. No significant changes are planned for the Beryl M762, as its win rate metrics remain stable.

We appreciate the exciting ideas and feedback you've provided, and we'll closely examine them. Not all updates can be implemented quickly due to the nature of gunplay, but we'll strive to align with the community's guidance. Moreover, based on your valuable feedback, we plan to enhance the usability of non-mainstream weapons in the latter half of the year.

We are experimenting with various methods such as surveys and live broadcasts to communicate with our players transparently and proactively. We aim to break free from traditional update approaches and create a synergy with our community for a healthier gaming environment.

Your feedback has greatly influenced the direction of the Dragunov and AUG updates and has prompted us to reflect on gunplay development and community communication. This is an ongoing effort, and we will continue to provide diverse updates and opportunities for communication. Stay tuned for more in the Battlegrounds.
