Monster Hunter Now by Niantic, a free-to-play augmented reality game with a Pokémon Go-style concept but set in the Monster Hunter universe, has achieved an impressive milestone with over 5 million downloads in its very first week on both iOS and Android platforms.
Announced back in February, Monster Hunter Now was officially launched on September 21st, following several closed beta tests. The game utilizes a real-world exploration and interaction system similar to Niantic's popular titles like Pokémon Go and Pikmin Bloom, albeit with a distinct Monster Hunter twist.
In this immersive experience, players embark on real-world adventures where they can gather valuable resources and engage in battles with various formidable monsters such as Barroth, Tobi Kadachi, Jyuratodus, Paolumu, Anjanath, Rathian, Rathalos, and Diablos. These encounters allow players to collect rewards that can be used to craft better equipment, preparing them for more challenging encounters in the future.
Monster Hunter Now offers a streamlined gaming experience with in-app purchases, a formula that has remained a fan favorite since the original Monster Hunter's debut on the PlayStation 2 in 2004. This winning formula has contributed to an exceptional first week for Monster Hunter Now, with downloads exceeding the 5 million mark, as officially reported.
For context, when Pokémon Go was released in July 2016, it garnered a staggering 10 million downloads in its first week, as per data from the mobile analytics site Sensor Tower. Additionally, Sensor Tower reported that Niantic's Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, which is no longer available, achieved 6.5 million first-week downloads when it launched in July 2019. In contrast, Niantic's collaboration with Nintendo, Pikmin Bloom, received 2 million downloads in its initial two weeks following its release in November 2021.
To celebrate this significant milestone of 5 million downloads for Monster Hunter Now, Capcom is offering players a bonus of 5,000 Zenny and two free Paintballs by using the redemption code "MHN5M" on the Monster Hunter Now Store website. Additionally, players can look forward to the limited-time Diablos Invasion event, scheduled to take place over the weekend, running from 1 pm to 4 pm local time on both Saturday and Sunday.
