The latest release of Android Auto, version 10.4, seems to have a primary focus on addressing glitches and enhancing the overall performance of the application. Google has not provided an official changelog for this update, but its quick release after the initial beta suggests that it primarily aims to resolve bugs.

Android Auto 10.4 is now available for download, arriving shortly after Google rolled out the first beta for this version. Unfortunately, no specific release notes are available, indicating that the primary emphasis is on bug fixes and improvements.

The distribution of Android Auto 10.4 is carried out through the Google Play Store, utilizing a phased approach. This means that some users receive the update earlier than others. Google first conducts thorough reliability and stability testing on a limited number of devices before gradually expanding its availability to more users. The objective is to ensure that no major issues affect users' devices before everyone receives the update.

This phased approach typically takes several weeks. However, for those who prefer not to wait, it's possible to manually download Android Auto updates. This process involves obtaining the standalone APK installer and installing it on the Android device. Keep in mind that special permissions may need to be granted, as Android typically restricts app installations from non-Google Play Store sources by default.

At this early stage, it's challenging to identify any significant changes included in this update. After using the new version for a few short drives, no new features were immediately apparent.

However, it's worth noting that a long-standing issue known as the "Coolwalk bug" persists even after the installation of Android Auto 10.4. This bug, which has been present for nearly six months, causes the lower part of the screen to freeze, rendering the taskbar unusable and preventing users from switching between apps. Users have reported that this issue appears to be related to Google Maps, with the interface freezing when launching the navigation app.

Despite its increasing prevalence in recent months, Google does not appear to be prioritizing a resolution for this bug. Currently, the only known workaround is to revert to earlier versions of Android Auto, although Google may eventually enforce updates to more recent releases for added functionality.

If you decide to install Android Auto 10.4 and notice any noteworthy changes, please share your observations in the comments below. Additionally, we will continue to provide updates if any new features or fixes are discovered in subsequent releases.
