Diablo IV is set to receive not just one, but multiple new expansions annually, according to a recent interview with Rod Fergusson, the general manager of the Diablo franchise. Fergusson, in conversation with Dexerto, disclosed that the development team behind Diablo IV is laying the groundwork for the future of Blizzard's beloved action role-playing game and is committed to delivering yearly expansions.

“As we contemplate our quarterly seasons and annual expansions, those are the key focal points of our live service,” Fergusson emphasized. "We've charted out our plans, with storylines extending far into the future. We're steadily progressing beyond our seasons and expansions, making it a long-term commitment. We're genuinely excited about it."

Fergusson appreciated the lengthy 11-year gap between Diablo III and Diablo IV and expressed a desire to rectify that for the gaming community. Diablo IV's ambitious content calendar, featuring quarterly seasons and annual expansions, aims to address this issue and provide a more satisfying gaming experience.

Notably, Fergusson had previously confirmed that two expansions were already in development for Diablo IV. Although specific details about these expansions remain shrouded in mystery, past iterations of the Diablo franchise introduced new locations, raised the level cap, and introduced fresh playable classes, such as the Assassin and Druid in Diablo II and the Crusader in Diablo III. Diablo IV appears set to exceed its predecessors in terms of expansion content by the end of 2025.

In a recent announcement during Gamescom Opening Night Live, Blizzard unveiled Diablo IV Season 2, known as the “Season of Blood.” This upcoming season will empower players with vampiric abilities and introduce a slew of highly requested quality-of-life improvements. Meanwhile, the ongoing Diablo IV Season of the Malignant continues to evolve, with the most recent balance patch addressing concerns raised by players regarding monster crowd-control effects.
