Digital Schoolhouse (DSH) has joined forces with Nintendo UK to introduce the Digital Schoolhouse Splatoon 3 Tournament, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at revolutionizing computer education in schools across the United Kingdom.
This unique competition is open to students aged 12-18 and encourages them to step into the roles of real-life gaming industry professionals. Students engage in a process that involves selecting a team of four from their school, who will then compete with other schools in regional and national qualifiers, leading up to the Grand Final. Now in its seventh iteration, this program has already reached over 30,000 students in schools and colleges across the UK.
In an era where technological advancements are rapidly reshaping how we learn and work, the Digital Schoolhouse Splatoon 3 Tournament plays a pivotal role in nurturing the next generation of creative computing talent. The tournament equips students with essential skills like communication, teamwork, and problem-solving—qualities that are highly sought after in today's competitive job market. Moreover, participants gain a comprehensive understanding of potential career paths, not only within the realm of esports but across the entire video game industry, with prizes up for grabs in categories such as shoutcasting, design, and journalism.
Research conducted by Digital Schoolhouse has demonstrated the profoundly positive impact of this program. The “Esports: Engaging Education” report revealed that nearly all participating students reported an increased interest in computing, with a remarkable 40% surge in students expressing a heightened interest in studying computing. Additionally, 75% of students reported improvements in their communication skills, while 79% noted enhancements in their team-building abilities. Some teachers even observed that previously disinterested students became engaged and motivated by the program.
Led by Digital Schoolhouse (DSH) and backed by Nintendo UK, the tournament offers students a unique opportunity to meet and learn from influential figures in the gaming industry, enabling them to thrive in the competition beyond their roles as players. Former participants have shared how the program not only helped them gain admission to their chosen universities for computing and video game-related degree programs but also equipped them with the valuable skills needed to succeed in their professional lives.
Shahneila Saeed, Director at Digital Schoolhouse and Head of Education at Ukie, emphasized the program's transformative potential, stating, “We know students can't aspire to jobs they don't know exist, and with careers traditionally taught being dry and uninspiring, the Digital Schoolhouse Splatoon 3 Tournament is a game changer. The immersive experience reimagines what good careers education can be, helping students discover how the things they enjoy and are good at can contribute towards their future professional life in a fun, hands-on environment. We 're excited to be launching the Digital Schoolhouse Splatoon 3 Tournament with Nintendo UK and hope to reach even more schools and pupils than ever before.'
Kalpesh Tailor, Head of Communications at Nintendo UK, shared his enthusiasm for the ongoing partnership with Digital Schoolhouse, remarking, “Through our continued partnership with Digital Schoolhouse for many years now, we have been thrilled to see so many smiles on the faces of students who have engaged and competed in the Digital Schoolhouse Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Team Battle. This academic year, we are excited to bring a fresh approach to the program with a newly created Splatoon 3 Tournament. We are confident this tournament and its educational activities will Continue to help inspire the next generation of young minds in the UK.”
