Toxicity has long been an unwelcome companion to League of Legends, to the point where it could almost be considered an unintended game feature. However, Riot Games is determined to change this narrative. In an effort to combat the overwhelming levels of toxicity in League, the developers are gearing up to introduce a significant change in an upcoming patch.
According to comments made by Riot HuntedFork on League's subreddit on September 6, Riot plans to implement a novel feature that will effectively lock out toxic players from the ranked queue. This will be closely linked to the refreshed chat restrictions introduced in Season 13, and it will result in players being temporarily barred from participating in ranked games. In essence, if a player faces suspension or receives more severe chat restrictions, they will need to demonstrate improved behavior to regain access to competitive League play.
It's important to note that these measures won't be immediately applied to players. Instead, they will come into effect after a series of queue delays and Honor level deductions have already been incurred.
The primary goal of this system is twofold: first, to diminish the overall toxicity within the League community, and second, to discourage “account hopping.” This practice involves players logging into alternative accounts and playing League on those accounts while waiting for their original account's punishment to expire.
As HuntedFork explained, "Many of our punishments are time-based. This means that people with multiple accounts can often swap accounts and play until the punishment on their main has expired. With game-based ranked restrictions, those people will eventually need to come back to their main account and play normal games. There's no way to use an alternate account to completely circumvent the punishment."
Overall, this development appears promising for League of Legends, as toxicity has been a growing concern. It's worth noting that this system is still in the refinement stage and is not yet finalized, but it is expected to be implemented "sometime in the next patch or two," according to HuntedFork.
