Destiny Glitch Update: 'Frankengun' Issue Resolved, Hope You Enjoyed the Ride |
The days of Destiny 2's assault rifles and grenade launchers behaving like shotguns are over. In response to the recent discovery of what the community has dubbed “Frankenguns,” Bungie has taken swift action. The crafting glitch responsible for creating these monstrous weapons allowed players to craft bizarre firearm combinations that could obliterate raid bosses in mere seconds. While Bungie recognized the amusing chaos it brought to the game, they've decided to restore order by disabling certain frames and perks on Exotic and Legendary weapons, including fan-favorites like "Osteo Striga," "Revision Zero," and "Dead Man's Tale." ," "Dead Messenger," "Vexcalibur," and all three Exotic class glaives.
An in-game message assures players that Bungie plans to replace these illegitimate perks on crafted weapons in a future update.
The Frankengun phenomenon began with a clip posted by a player on the Chinese social network Bilibili, where they accidentally combined a perk from the exotic grenade launcher Dead Messenger with the fusion rifle Midha's Reckoning. This created a weapon capable of effortlessly dispatching challenging Champion enemies. The video was then shared on YouTube, sparking a race among Destiny 2 content creators to replicate the glitch.
While the exact originator of the glitch remains clear, tutorials like the one from Hyrna surfaced, providing step-by-step instructions on how to replicate it. Essentially, it involves manipulating the crafting menu by rapidly switching between two weapons, with Destiny 2 running at a low frame rate making the process easier.
Remarkably, Bungie has decided not to penalize players for exploiting these glitched guns, allowing the Weekly Trials of Osiris mode to continue without disruption, strange weapons and all. To address the issue, Bungie is implementing two hotfixes. The first, expected before the weekend concludes, will prevent players from using any crafted weapons. The second, arriving later, will reset the "outlier" crafted weapons rather than deleting them outright.
Overall, Destiny players are in for an entertaining weekend as the Frankengun antics recall memories of the infamous “Laser Tag” weekend when the Prometheus Lens trace rifle wreaked havoc with its instant-deletion beams. Bungie's chosen solution, instead of a complete rollback, is a welcome relief, sparing players from losing progress and allowing them one more day of enjoying overpowered weaponry before a minimally disruptive fix is applied.
