Airborne's Rust update turns hot air balloons into flying fortresses

The latest Rust update, known as the Airborne update, has introduced an array of exciting additions to the game's aerial capabilities. Among the notable features are attack helicopters, parachutes, armored hot air balloons, and a homing missile launcher designed to take down adversaries.

Facepunch Studios, in a recent Steam post, unveiled the comprehensive list of enhancements included in the update. These improvements include enhancements to pumpjack and quarry models, adjustments to hot air balloon fuel consumption and decay rates, the introduction of indicators for unlearnable blueprints, and various other refinements.

To provide players with a glimpse of these thrilling aerial additions, a promotional trailer was released, encouraging the Rust community to embrace the chaos these new features offer.

Rust enthusiasts can now access a formidable attack helicopter through the Air Wolf store at the bandit camp, priced at 2,250 scrap. This helicopter boasts both a pilot and a gunner seat, allowing players to utilize turret firepower and a variety of rocket types, including HV and incendiary rockets, for offensive operations. However, a significant countermeasure against this airborne threat is the homing missile launcher, offering highly effective means of defense. To evade missile strikes, pilots can listen to warning lock audio signals and deploy flares, if available. Crafting homing missiles is also possible, requiring 20 HQM, three metal pipes, one tech trash, and one CCTV Camera.

Furthermore, Rust players can now employ parachutes to control their descent from great heights. It's important to note that parachutes degrade with each use, and the quality of the parachute directly influences descent speed, forward flight speed, and maneuverability.

In another exciting development, hot air balloons can now be reinforced with corrugated steel and wood to bolster their durability and provide protection against hostile players. Players can find this upgrade at the vehicle parts vendor located in the bandit camp.

To enhance the gameplay experience, the update introduces changes to how the game handles players venturing beyond the world's boundaries. Previously, players and their vehicles would be suddenly destroyed without any notification upon leaving the map. However, the Airborne update now employs a "force" mechanism to prevent vehicles or boats from exiting the world's limits, effectively pushing players back into the safe playing area and eliminating the frustration of getting lost beyond the borders.
